This guide is designed to support you if you are unable to use Magic Notes due to microphone permission issues, most commonly when an error message is displayed on your screen.
In most cases, this happens because microphone access has been blocked or restricted by your browser or device settings. The steps below explain how to check and update your microphone permissions so audio can be captured correctly.
Magic Notes is officially supported on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge only. If you are using a different browser, you may experience unexpected behaviour and we recommend switching to Chrome or Edge.
PC Browsers
Microsoft Edge (PC)
Allow microphone access for a specific website
Open Microsoft Edge and navigate to the website you want to use.
Look at the address bar at the top of the browser window.
Click the lock icon on the left-hand side of the website address.
A site permissions panel will open.
Locate Microphone in the list.
Set it to Allow or Ask.
Refresh the page so the change takes effect.
Allow microphone access for all websites
Open Microsoft Edge.
Click the three dots menu in the top-right corner.
Select Settings.
Click Cookies and site permissions in the left-hand menu.
Scroll down and click Microphone.

Turn Ask before accessing on or off
Review Allowed and Blocked websites
Select the correct microphone from the dropdown at the top
Google Chrome (PC)
Allow microphone access for a specific website
Open Google Chrome and navigate to the website you want to use.
Look at the address bar at the top of the screen.

Click the lock icon or information icon on the left-hand side of the website address.
A site permissions panel will appear.
Find Microphone and set it to Allow, Block, or Ask.
Refresh the page if prompted.

Click the three dots menu in the top-right corner.
Select Settings.
Click Privacy and security.
Select Site settings.
Under Permissions, click Microphone.

Mobile Browsers
Google Chrome (Android)
Check microphone permissions for a specific website
Open the Chrome app on your Android device.
Navigate to the website you want to use.
Tap the lock icon or information icon to the left of the website address.
Tap Site settings or Permissions.
Tap Microphone.
Choose Allow, Block, or Ask.

Open the Chrome app.
Tap the three dots menu.
Select Settings.
Tap Site settings.
Tap Microphone.
Review sites under Allowed, Blocked, or Ask.
Tap a site to update its permission or tap Reset permissions to clear all.
Google Chrome (iPhone)
Check microphone permissions for a specific website
Open the Chrome app and visit the website.
Look at the address bar at the top of the screen.
Tap the microphone icon or lock icon on the left-hand side of the website address.
Toggle microphone access on or off for that site.

Open the Chrome app.
Tap the three dots menu in the bottom-right corner.
Select Settings.
Tap Site settings.
Tap Microphone.
Turn Ask before allowing on or off.
Review Allowed and Blocked sites.
Check iPhone system permissions
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap Chrome.
Ensure Microphone or Speech Recognition is enabled.
Microsoft Edge (iPhone)
Allow microphone access in iPhone settings
Open the Settings app.
Scroll down and tap Edge.
Tap Microphone.
Ensure the toggle is turned on.
Check site permissions in Edge
Open the Edge app and visit the website.
Tap the lock icon on the left-hand side of the website address.
Locate Microphone.
Change it to Allow if blocked.
Refresh the page.
Microsoft Edge (Android)
Check microphone permissions for a specific website
Open the Edge app and visit the website.
Tap the lock icon or site information icon next to the address bar.
Tap Site permissions.
Set Microphone to Allow.
Refresh the page if required.

Open the Edge app.
Tap the three dots menu.
Select Settings.
Tap Site permissions.
Tap Microphone.
Ensure Ask before accessing is turned on.
Review Allowed and Blocked websites.
Check Android system permissions
Open your device Settings app.
Tap Apps.
Select Edge.
Tap Permissions.
Ensure Microphone is allowed.
