Recording online/hybrid meetings using your laptop
When should I use the laptop's ‘online’ recording feature?
- Use this method to record online meetings, such as Teams or Skype
- Use this feature when all participants are online or when some are in-person while others join remotely (also called a ‘hybrid’ meeting)
- Remember - you must always ask for consent before recording
How it works
You’ll be sharing your laptop's audio with Magic Notes so it can record your meeting. It's similar to sharing your screen, but only audio will be shared - no video is captured.
Can I use headphones?
- Yes!
- Plug them in before you start recording.
- Avoid plugging in or removing headphones during the recording, as this will impact the audio quality.
Here is a quick video on how to get this set up!
Step 1: Log into Magic Notes
Begin by logging into your Magic Notes account on your laptop by opening up your internet browser and visiting www.magicnotes.ai.

Step 2: Locate the Record Button
Once logged in, you’ll find the pink ‘Record’ button at the bottom of your screen. Click on this button to initiate the recording process. (You can also click on the record button in the menu bar on the left of your screen under ‘my notes’).
You will be given the option of ‘In person’ or ‘online/hybrid. ’ Select the ‘Online/hybrid’ option to proceed.
Step 3 - Follow the prompts
Once you click online/hybrid, the below pop-up is going to appear on your screen. At the side of the pop-up, you’ll see 3 prompts in the white bubble boxes. Follow these three prompts, which will instruct you how to share your audio with Magic Notes.
Click 1 - Click the entire screen near the top of the the pop up box, which is highlighted in yellow:
Click 2 - Click on the thumbnail picture of your screen (as highlighted by the yellow box below) - if you have multiple screens connected, click on screen 1.
Click 3 - Click the ‘Also share system audio’ toggle located just above the ‘Share’ button so that it turns blue (which is highlighted in yellow below).
Click 4 - You're now ready to click on the ‘Share’ button! Once you do, Magic Notes will start recording your online meeting.
When recording your Magic Note online, as mentioned above, remember that you’ll need to ensure that the audio is shared from your device so that everyone on the call is heard and Magic Notes isn't only picking up one person/one side of the conversation. This is really important so make sure to follow the setup steps carefully, making sure that you have selected the screen and toggled the audio button. If you are still experiencing an issue, it's worth checking our audio settings article here.
Step 4 - Save your recording when it finishes
At the end of your meeting, you must click the ‘Save button’ or the ‘Stop sharing audio with Magic Notes’ button, which will be located either at the top or bottom of your screen. This will initiate your Magic Note to start generating!
Conclusion
Recording a Magic Note from your laptop is a simple yet powerful way to document meetings. By following these steps, you can ensure that every detail is captured and summarised efficiently. Whether you're in a bustling office or a quiet café, Magic Notes empowers you to focus on the conversation, knowing that the details are being recorded accurately.
